painting...

...takes a lot of patience!

we have been painting consistently for 9 days now. it is amazing how exhausting painting is; however, there is so much more to painting than just painting! these things may include cleaning your surface, priming, caulking, laying down painters tape, covering floors with drop cloths, prepping and cleaning paint brushes, paint containers, rollers, etc. in other words - its a lot of work!

This has been a hard lesson in personal project management. Mom introduced me to the term "scope creep" meaning the scope of the project continues to become larger than originally planned. For example, this past weekend, mom suggested that we paint a small place on the brick behind the refrigerator to see if we liked it... and I liked it. Mom so graciously primed, painted and sponged all of the brick in the kitchen. The kitchen is 100% improved because of that simple (but not so small) change. Additionally, we decided to paint the walls in the stairwell leading up to the second floor and the hallway walls and ceiling on the second floor. This, however, required the experts. Kenny's guys, Arnold and Louis, came on Sunday afternoon and completed that for us.

To date we have completed all the painting in the kitchen and the entryway and hallway to the kitchen. We are 90% done in the living room and 90% done in the dining room. We have to paint the walls and trim in the half bath as well as putting a final coat of white paint on the doors for the pantry (formerly the coat closet) and the downstairs half bath.

thankfully, my parents have been helping us almost every night - I can't begin to express my appreciation for all they have helped us with! also appreciation goes to Connie, Harrison, Amber, Patrick and Sarah, and Sarah W.

Here are a few pictures of what we've done so far!

dad had friday off from work so i took off so we could paint. Duke dog got to spend the day with us at the new house and didn't get his paws in the paint (thankfully)!

however, i think he got bored with watching us paint and we probably interupted his sleep schedule!

Harrison had a half day and came to help us too!

awesome Amber painting the brown on the walls!

Nick was having a GREAT time painting... (haha)

the newly painted brick in the kitchen!

the DONE kitchen! :)
(the tape is off the windows now even though its not reflected in this picture!)
